Information for Veteran's Disability Applications
For questions about applying for TPD discharge under the standard for veterans or to check on the status of a previously submitted application, contact the current loan holder.
For questions about how to submit an application to the Department for review under the standard for certain veterans, or to check on the status of a submitted application, contact:

Information for Borrowers
For questions about applying for a TPD discharge a borrower should first contact the loan holder. If a borrower has already applied for a TPD discharge and the loan holder has informed him or her that the loan has been assigned to the Department, the borrower can contact the Total and Permanent Disability Unit.

Repayment and TEACH Grant Service Obligations
If a borrower did not qualify for a TPD discharge and needs to make payment arrangements, he or she should contact the appropriate servicing center:
- For repayment of non-defaulted loans under the William D. Ford Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program, contact the Direct Loan Servicing Center at 1-800-848-0979, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (ET). Individuals who use a telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) may call 1-800-848-0983.
- For repayment of non-defaulted loans under the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program held by the Department, contact Non-Default FFEL Loan Servicing at 1-800-508-1378 (fax: 866-938-4751).
- For repayment of non-defaulted loans under the Federal Perkins Loan (Perkins Loan) Program held by the Department, contact Non-Default Perkins Servicing at 1-866-324-1214 (fax: 315-324-1214).
- For repayment of defaulted loans held by the Department, contact the Default Resolution Group at 1-800-621-3115.
- To address a TEACH Grant service obligation, contact the Direct Loan Servicing Center at 1-800-848-0979, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (ET). Individuals who use a telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) may call 1-800-848-0983.

Veterans Disability Discharge Unit
The Department's Veterans Disability Discharge Unit reviews applications for TPD discharge for applicants who may qualify under the standard for certain veterans.
